10th World Urban Forum – Cities of Opportunities: Connecting Culture and Innovation

From 8-13 February in 2020, urban decision makers and stakeholders from around the world will flock to United Arab Emirate’s capital to gather at the World Urban Forum.  

The world’s premier conference on cities is convened every two years by UN-Habitat  this year in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities and other Abu Dhabi government departments. The World Urban Forum taking place for the tenth time is an international platform being inclusive and open to the global urban community combined with high-level participation. Thus, the meeting represents an important moment to discuss the joint battle against unmanaged and rapid urbanisation and the increasingly threatening impacts of climate change including its ramifications on the urban population. The central themes of next year’s conference are culture and innovation, and their potential to drive sustainable urbanisationCulture and cultural diversity playing a vital role in cities growth and featuring in the international frameworks of the New Urban Agenda and the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, are often viewed as social assets that are yet to be harnessed. Regarding the second theme, cities are hubs of innovation helping to address a wide range of urban challenges such as access to cities services. Linking cities cultural richness to its innovative power can lead to valuable intersection. The 10th World Urban Forum is therefore central opportunity for discussions on how to harness the potential of connection culture and innovation and to confront the global urban challenges of our time with joint forces.
