Climte Action Groups in Mexico

Webinars and peer-to-peer learning formats for improved climate action

Multiple challenges that cities are facing today can no longer be seen in isolation, but must be addressed in a coordinated, intersectoral manner. The right to the city, increased resilience towards the effects of climate change and the goals of a Just Transition go hand in hand and can only be fulfilled by increased cooperation and coordination between different levels of government, sectors and stakeholder groups.

In this spirit, the Mexican Ministries of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) and of Agricultural, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU) are joining forces with the local level, represented by the Mexican Association of Municipal Planning Institutes (AMIMP) and are opening up spaces for online exchanges through webinars and peer-to-peer learning formats. Support comes from the GIZ projects “Climate Protection in Mexican Urban Policy” (CiClim), the “German-Mexican Climate Change Alliance” as well as “Climate Policy Meets Urban Development”The topics are as diverse as the cooperating institutions and will revolve around green infrastructure, urban densification in the context of COVID-19 and climate-friendly urban planning. While webinars will provide expert knowledge, the peer-to-peer formats are aimed at co-creation through the discussion of real-world challenges and inputs from a diverse group of participants with the goal to produce tangible solutions.

From June 2020 to February 2021, 12 interventions, Webinars and Online Support Groups for Climate Action have been planned and are open to join after registering (in Spanish).
