Collaborative Climate Action: Experiences from Local Leaders

On Monday, 5th October, from 5-6 pm (CEST / UTC+2), the GIZ project “Climate Policy Meets Urban Development” invites you to join its virtual seminar on

Collaborative Climate Action: Experiences from local leaders

It is the concluding session of a three-part webinar series on “Local climate leadership in times of COVID-19: The case for collaborative action and national support”. After presenting Germany’s multi-level support structure for local climate action, i.e. the National Climate Initiative and its support programmes (for more information see here), the third and final webinar takes a look abroad.

It will feature concrete cases of collaborative climate action and local climate leadership from Tbilisi in Georgia and from Hermosillo in Mexico. We are glad to confirm

Mr. Giga Gigashvili, Head of the Municipal Department of Environmental Protection, Municipality of Tbilisi, Georgia, and

Ms. Guadalupe Peñúñuri, General Director of the Municipal Institute for Planning, Municipality of Hermosillo, Mexico,

as speakers for this webinar. Welcoming words will be delivered by Mr. Hermann Amecke from the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety.

The online seminar is directed towards national and local decision-makers as well as urban policy professionals dealing with issues at the intersection of climate action and urban development. Participants will gain insights into the implementation of climate projects from a city perspective. Our speakers will illustrate the links between the subnational and national climate frameworks and derive their key success factors and experiences gained.

The event is open to the public. It will run under the banner of the “Urban October”, an UN-Habitat initiative to promote a more sustainable urban future. Please feel free to share the invitation within your networks.
